What You Actually Need to Get Accurate Results

Three things: birth date, birth time, and birthplace. The birth date is easy — most people know it. The other two are where most readings fall apart.

Birth time is critical because your Rising sign (Ascendant) shifts every two hours. A 20-minute difference can move you from late Libra Rising into Scorpio Rising — two completely different energies, different first impressions, different house systems. If you have your birth certificate, use it. Hospital records work too. "Sometime in the morning" is not a birth time — it's a guess, and a guess will give you a wrong Rising sign.

Birthplace matters because the calculator needs precise coordinates and your local timezone at the moment of birth. A city name is enough — the calculator handles the rest using exact latitude, longitude, and historical timezone data.

If you genuinely don't know your birth time: contact the hospital where you were born and request your birth records. Many hospitals retain these. In the US, you can also request a long-form birth certificate from your state's vital records office — it often includes time of birth that the short form leaves out.

How the Calculator Actually Works

The calculator runs on Swiss Ephemeris data — the same astronomical engine professional astrologers and astrological software have used for decades. It's not interpretation or approximation. It's the actual position of the Sun, Moon, and Ascendant degree at your exact moment and location of birth.

Your Sun sign is determined by the Sun's position in the zodiac on your birth date. This changes once per month, which is why everyone born in late October through late November shares a Scorpio Sun. Your Moon sign comes from the Moon's zodiac position at your exact birth time — the Moon moves fast, changing signs every 2.5 days, so birth time matters here too. Your Rising sign is the zodiac sign that was cresting the eastern horizon at the precise moment you were born at your specific location on Earth.

The output gives you the sign, the exact degree, and the house placements — not just "you're a Gemini Moon" but "you're a Gemini Moon at 17 degrees in the 8th house," which is a meaningfully different reading than Gemini Moon at 2 degrees in the 3rd.

What the degree tells you: Early degrees (0–9°) of a sign mean you're at the beginning of that sign's development — raw, unrefined, still learning how to express those qualities. Late degrees (27–29°) indicate mastery under pressure. The 29th degree specifically, called the anaretic degree, carries an urgency and intensity that colors everything about that placement.

Reading Your Results: Start Here, Not With the Descriptions

When your results load, resist the urge to immediately click into each sign's description. Do this first: look at the three elements. Is your Sun in a fire sign? Your Moon in water? Your Rising in earth? The element spread tells you more about how you actually function than any single sign description can.

If all three land in the same element — say, Aries Sun, Leo Moon, Sagittarius Rising — your personality is highly consistent. People read you accurately. You're predictable in the best sense. The downside is a blind spot to what other elements bring: earth's practicality, water's depth, air's detachment.

If your Big Three span three different elements, you're more internally complex. Different people in your life will see completely different versions of you — and all of them are right. The question that cuts through the noise: Which of your Big Three do you lead with under stress? That's usually your Moon. Which do you lead with when you're performing or meeting someone new?
